Perfect for Pots - Giant Bromeliad

If your looking for a tough, yet majestic plant that can withstand the isolation that we condemn them to - pots, then look no further than Giant Bromeliad (Alcantarea imperialis).

There are around 16 species of Alcantarea, two of our favourites are Alcantarea imperialis "Silver Plum" with its silver frosted leaf and deep plum underside and Alcantarea imperialis "Rubra", seen below.

These beauties will grow up to 1 metre and are extremely content in pots or in the garden, full sun or semi shade and like the temperate and sub-tropical climates. They will handle light frosts once they are established though. Preferring a free draining soil or potting mix, definitely keep their feet out of water. Older leaves at the base can be taken off to keep them looking great and they will normally need water only when it rains but if it is particularly hot or dry, they'll thank you for a drink. Giant Bromeliads; Give them a go!
